Watch to nurture…….
Off Campus: My good friend from college is the showrunner here, so I am totally biased! It isn’t just that, though- THE SOUNDTRACK is everything!! It's a fun, swoony, opposites-attract college romance full of needle drops that make every scene hit harder.
Uninvited: Brandi Carlile Cover: This cover is STUNNING. Period. Carlile's voice does exactly what you'd hope with this song, raw and aching in all the right places. A perfect "put it on and just feel something" kind of watch.
PBS Great Performances: Suffs: If you haven't seen Suffs yet, this filmed performance is the next best thing to being in the room. It's sharp, funny, and deeply moving; a musical about the suffrage movement that feels urgently and eerily relevant right now.
Exposing the Myth of Southern Charm: As someone from the North, I came into this with a lot of preconceptions ANDDD this video challenged nearly all of them. It's informative and thought-provoking in a way that made me rethink assumptions I didn't even realize I was carrying.
Follow to grow………….
Fei Fei's Substack: Fei Fei writes short, intimate essays on solitude, intimacy, and self-discovery; writing that puts language to feelings you didn't realize you'd been carrying. Her piece on "the art of being alone" has stuck with me for days.
Rick Rubin's Substack: Rubin shares brief, almost meditative reflections on creativity, presence, and making things; distilled wisdom from one of music's most thoughtful minds, in just a few sentences at a time. If you liked his book on the creative process, you will appreciate his thoughts here in this space.
Vika Bradford's Substack: Vika writes The Wounds of the Zodiac; a deep, methodical exploration of every sign, house, and planet through the lens of karmic astrology and the emotional wounds they carry. I've actually had a reading with her, and I have never felt more seen in my life. If you've ever wanted astrology to go beyond surface-level predictions and into something that truly helps you understand yourself, follow her immediately.
Read to root…….
Men Written By Women: Off-Campus, Shakespeare, and Narrative Drag by Sophie Strand: This essay is a perfect companion piece to Off-Campus — Strand digs into what it means when women write men, and why those portrayals can feel more honest than the real thing. Smart, surprising, and a great lens for the show.
The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow: Harrow has never missed for me, and this one is no exception — lush, strange, and emotionally rich in the way only she can do. I love that she plays with time, gender, and myth in really unexpected ways. I keep thinking about this book.
Famesick by Lena Dunham: Yes, every millennial woman has probably recommended this memoir to you. That is for a good reason. It is as candid and self-aware as you'd expect, with Dunham's signature wit cutting through some genuinely vulnerable territory. I was shocked and horrified and deeply ensnared by her writing.
Into The Blue by Emma Brodie: This may be my favorite book about yearning that I have ever read. It does yearning SO GOOD! I can’t stop thinking about it! It is weird, but also atmospheric and immersive — Brodie has a gift for pulling you into a world and a love story that you don't want to leave.
Listen to expand……
USA250: America's Roman Revolution: A fascinating dive into the parallels between early America and ancient Rome, such a good listen for anyone who loves history with a fresh angle.
The Cry of Merlin: A Jungian Approach to the Wizard: A really rich, archetypal exploration of the Merlin myth through a Jungian lens; the kind of episode that'll have you thinking about myth and meaning for days. I’ve been looking for Merlin everywhere since I listened.
