Watch to nurture…….
The Paper. I was skeptical about watching another workplace mockumentary - how many times can we revisit The Office's playbook? But somehow, this show threaded the needle. The creators took their well-worn formula and gave it a 2025 refresh, landing on something that made me laugh, cringe, and actually contemplate the slow death of print journalism. Turns out that's exactly what I needed.
Ken Burns: The American Revolution. Watch this now, before the narrative shifts…… yet again. Ken Burns has a gift for making history feel both familiar and revelatory; his documentaries don't just recount the past, they deepen your understanding of it. This one examines the founding of America from multiple angles, offering a timely reminder of how we arrived at where we are today.
Follow to grow…….
@freia_thewitchdoctor: local witch and researcher invested in examining feminine rituals and how to incorporate them back into our lives.
@soundartmagic: a dear friend I met at an herbalist conference who is capturing the natural sounds of the woods in an effort to save the forest up in Woodstock, NY.
@well.guide she eagerly examines our cultural obsession with productivity and how to ground yourself amongst the noice.
Read to root…….
Finding The Mother Tree by Suzanne Simard: We were assigned this for herbalism school, and I wasn't prepared for how deeply it would affect me. Trees communicate with each other—science actually proves this. And there's typically one tree that acts as the hub: a matriarch who distributes vital information to all the others. I'm usually a fiction reader, but I found myself captivated by the narrative quality of this groundbreaking research. Sometimes the best stories are true.
Best Woman: A Novel by Rose Dammu: This was a really fun, easy read. Julia is a trans woman serving as the best woman at her cis straight brother's wedding. Her extended family hasn't seen her since her transition. We get glimpses of her wild life in New York juxtaposed with the all-too-familiar experience of reverting to old patterns when you're back in your childhood home.
Venerable New Language for the Reproductive System. This language was recently introduced to me, and I find it refreshing and necessary, especially now. I've always thought about the fact that many people choose not to reproduce, or are unable to, so should we still call these organs "reproductive"?
America's Children Are Unwell; Are Schools A Part of The Problem? I have a lot of thoughts about the role of schooling that may or may not become a book one day. I think this article might start a necessary conversation: what is the purpose of schooling in children's lives today, when the world looks nothing like it did when mandatory education was first established?
Listen to expand……
The Telepathy Tapes: If you haven't listened by now, season 2 is even more compelling than season 1, and I talked about season 1 for months. The first season explores the telepathic connection nonverbal autistic children have with one of their parents. The second dives into other forms of communication, like plant intelligence! 100/10 Reccomend giving it a try!
Support if you can….
